The
strip excision method is the process by which a strip
of scalp tissue is surgically removed from the donor area
of the scalp. The donor area is then sutured. The assistants
extract the individual hair follicles. These follicles
are then implanted into the bald area. Sutures in donor
area are removed after 7-10 days. The scar of the strip
method comes under the long hair at the back of head .
|
|
Some
patients are scared of sutures and therefore, never wish
to undergo this surgery. Sometimes there is swelling or
increased bleeding in the area of sutures. There may be
persistent numbness because of nerve injury. Since the
dissection is carried out by technicians, there is a high
incidence of injury to hair follicles and decreased graft
yield. It is also not a good choice for the people who
wish to shave or keep short hair. The hair from the body
cannot be extracted by this technique. If one is not satisfied
with the density, it is not possible to immediately do
‘top-ups’ or re-surgeries. One would have
to wait for atleast 6 months or maybe longer. Also there
is a theoretical limit to the number of times the procedure
is repeated. |
