Easy Ways Out of Ear Aches – Part 2

In the previous article, we looked at some home remedies that can help with an earache. In this continuing part, we will look at some more home remedies, which are truly effective in curing ear aches.

Olive oil – Olive oil is known to be a magical oil, because it can work wonders for the human body. While it can give you wonderful hair and skin and also help keep your weight under control, the same olive oil can also ensure that your earache is reduced quickly. Olive oil actually works as a lubricant, which is why it can easily dislodge the debris and help remove the infection. In addition, olive oil can also help get rid of that irritating buzzing feeling that tends to infest inside the ears. All you need to do is warm a little oil and pour a few drops into the ear. You could also dip an earbud into warm olive oil and use the same to clean the ear out.
Mullein Oil – Also known as Verbascum Thapsus, common mullein is often used to treat breathing related issues. But the same herb can be used to treat earaches as well, however, the method of using the same is a little different. The flowers and buds of the common mullein have to be infused in olive oil, and this can be done by filling a jar with the former. Then the jar needs to be covered with olive oil and left for ten to fifteen days. The oil can then be strained and stored in a bottle, and this oil can be used to treat earaches. You can even add a few cloves of garlic into the oil, as garlic too can relive earaches.
Essential oil cocktail – While this cocktail does not contain any alcohol, it does contain a range of oils. Combine a quarter cup of olive oil with ten drops each of lavender and tea tree essential oils. The moment an ear infection starts to crop up, apply this oil on the edges of the ear and you should notice an immediate drop in the inflammation and infection. This will also reduce the chances of the earache increasing. It is important to remember that essential oils should not be applied directly to the ears, in an unadulterated manner. This is especially important for children, because the oils are actually really strong and could cause irritation.

Garlic – Garlic is known to have antibiotic as well as analgesic properties, and while the small white pods can reduce cholesterol, it can also reduce earaches. If the pain is being caused due to an infection, then garlic could certainly be of great help. Heat a small amount of chopped garlic in olive or sesame oil and then let the same cool down. Once cool, filter the oil out and pour the same into the infected ear. You could also extract the essence of garlic by pureeing several pods and then straining the juice. The same can be poured directly into the ear.
Ginger – When you have a sore throat, you would drink ginger tea, because you know that ginger will soothe the same. However, did you know that the same ginger can also relieve earaches? Ginger actually is a really effective anti-inflammatory, which is why it can treat ear inflammation as well. In addition, it is also a natural painkiller and can be used in the natural form. Extract the juice from fresh ginger and pour a few drops of the same directly into the ear. Alternately, you can mix grated ginger with olive oil and allow the two to infuse. After ten minutes, strain the liquid and pour a few drops into the aching ear.
Peppermint – Peppermint is truly effective in treating earaches and ear infections and the leaves as well as the oil can be used. If you are using fresh leaves, then extract the juice and pour a few drops into the aching ear. If you are using peppermint oil, then you need to remember that this is in a more concentrated form, which is why you need to use it more sparingly. Swab the oil on the outer rims of the ear, but ensure that no oil enters the ear. Alternately, you could dilute the peppermint oil with a little olive oil and then pour into the ear.
Basil – Like garlic, basil also has antibacterial and analgesic properties and can relieve you of earaches, quite easily. Wash basil leaves and then crush them to extract the juice. Pour three to four drops of this juice into the ear and repeat at least twice a day for relief.
Neem – Neem is perhaps nature’s strongest antibacterial and while most people know about the effect the herb has on skin and teeth, little would people know about the effect it has on aches and pains. The analgesic, antifungal and antibacterial nature of neem can help reduce aches in the ear. Extract the juice from washed neem leaves and pour the same into the aching ear. You could also use neem oil, by soaking a cotton ball in it. Squeeze out all excess oil and then leave the cotton ball in your ear for a few minutes.
Bishop’s weed – Commonly known as ajwain, these seeds can not only cure stomach ache’s but also earaches. Combine a small spoon of Bishop’s seed oil and sesame oil and warm this mixture. Pour a few drops of this warm oil into the ear. You could also create a concoction by combining Bishop’s weed, mustard oil and garlic flakes. The mixture needs to be heated till the garlic changes colour, after which the oil needs to be filtered out. The oil can then be stored into a bottle and a few drops can be poured into the aching ear.

If none of these work, you should head straight to the doctor, who will be able to prescribe pain killers and antibiotics, if required.
